Curbed Austin: Austin, Texas Is the World’s Top Tech City

The city’s tech-friendly environment is outperforming factors like buzz and wellness.

When it comes to living in the world’s most tech-friendly city, residents in Austin, Texas can claim the coveted title. According to new research from international real estate company Savills’ Tech Cities 2017 report, the southern city ranks high in five key categories that continue to fuel its tech economy: tech environment, business environment, real estate costs, talent pool and lifestyle.

But despite Austin’s win in the overall rankings, other cities like Berlin, London and Tokyo ranked higher than Austin in livability. That ranking is determined through quantifying a city’s buzz, meaning its nightlife, culture and entertainment, and its wellness, which includes pollution levels, healthcare and commuting times.

Other U.S. cities that made the Tech Cities 2017 report are Boston and Seattle. The cities took the seventh and 12th spots on the overall tech economy list, respectively.
