Houston’s Most Expensive Mansion

30 Million Dollar Home for Sale in Houston, Texas

Chateau Carnarvon, named for its location on 100 Carnarvon Drive, is the most expensive house ever on the Houston market. This massive mansion is located on approximately 2.5 acres of secluded wooded grounds. This estate is more than 27,000 square feet with 8 bedrooms, 8 bathrooms and 4 partial bathrooms. It is settled in the Memorial Villages neighborhood - one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in Houston.

When Chateau Carnarvon went on the market in 2014, it was listed at $43 million dollars and set the record for the most expensive listing in Houston history. It has recently been reduced to $30 million according to Martha Turner Sotheby’s International Realty’s website. Even with the price cut, Chateau Carnarvon is still leading as the most expensive home in Houston. The second-highest listing price for a home in Houston was a $26 million estate in River Oaks.

This modern Neoclassical home is designed for someone with sophisticated style and the need to entertain. It offers grand formal rooms and outdoor gardens. Homeowners will be able to entertain their guests in a variety of luxury rooms such as a rotunda, reception hall, dining room, music room, gallery hall, family room, sunroom and informal dining room. The Versailles style garden features imported olive trees, citrus groves, rose gardens, sculptures, fountains and a luxurious pool. The home is also surrounded by magnolia trees to offer privacy and shade.

This home was previously owned by Dr. Wilber “Ed” Bosarge and his wife Marie Bosarge. Ed is a world-renowned mathematician, contributing to the fields of finance, medicine and earth science. He is the co-founder and chairman of Quantlab Financial. They purchased the mansion in 2010 when it was only partially completed for $1.185 million. The couple used their luxurious taste to finish the home with hand-painted details, reproduced period moldings, white marble tile, scraped hardwood floors, chandeliers and seven marble fireplaces.

The master suite is located on the first floor in a separate wing with an elaborate entrance. The master suite is accompanied by a dressing suite with walk-in closets, a marble bathing room and a massage room. There are two full apartments located on the second floor perfect for family or guests. Away from the home, are detached staff quarters with a living room, full kitchen, bedroom and bathroom.

Mrs. Bosarge had one of the eight bedrooms in the Chateau transformed into a full-service hair salon. Other unique amenities include a home theater, a music room and a billiards room.

Martha Turner told the Houston Chronicle in 2014 that the Bosarge’s have decided to sell their home in Houston because they have several homes located around the world and they do not frequent Houston as much.
