The Beverly Hills real estate mogul talks about his time at The Agency, and how his online pocket listing service reached $1 billion worth of off-market listings.

Christopher Dyson serves as the Estate Director at The Agency Beverly Hills a luxury real estate brokerage and lifestyle company which represents residential clients. Christopher began his real estate career selling elite properties in Spain before he relocated to California. Outside of working hard to be named to the top 1% of realtors in the United States, Christopher enjoys spending time with his wife and two children.

ESTATENVY touched base with Dyson to discuss his roadmap to success in a high-end real estate market like Beverly Hills.

How did you begin your career in real estate?

In 2000, I started selling real estate to wealthy Europeans in Spain. I decided to relocate to California in 2005 and started to explore the real estate market and began networking in Beverly Hills. I sold at Keller Williams for a couple of years before making the decision to move to The Agency in 2013. I value the culture of partnership and collaboration created by the agency owners, Mauricio Umansky, Eduardo Umansky, Billy Rose and Blair Chang.

To what do you attribute your success in the Beverly Hills market?

That’s hard to say, but I would definitely attribute my success to the integrity of my practice and agents and always doing what’s right for our clients. As long as you keep the client’s best interest at the forefront and support them – that’s the ultimate recipe for success.

Tell me more about your role at The Agency?

I specialize in listing and selling high-end properties and estates mainly throughout Beverly Hills and the Los Angeles area. I also deal with a lot of clients who come over from the United Kingdom and are looking for prospective properties. My current property listings range in price from $53,500 million to $250,000 thousand for a lot. I am more than just a real estate broker, I am committed to informing and connecting people through the act of buying and selling a home.

I have to ask – what’s it like working with celebrities?

It’s great! I have enjoyed the variety of interesting and talented people I have represented. There is a level of privacy with celebrities that you have to respect. Celebrities like everything to be confidential and not in the public eye which can pose a challenge when scouting out properties. This is also why I created the Pocket Listing Service (PLS) an efficient and effective platform for agents looking for privacy when representing buyers or sellers.

Tell me more about your pocket listing service?

ThePLS.com has been live for eight months. We launched it last August and it’s been wonderfully successful. It’s the first private, national off-market listing site created exclusively by agents for agents. Since launching we have $1 billion worth of properties on the site. It’s a free service for all agents we want to make it as easy as possible for all parties. I got a message from an agent last week saying they listed a property on the site and how it made his job that much easier. The site primarily specializes in high-end properties and homes, mostly in the California area but it’s growing in Florida, too.

What trends do you see in the market right now?

The off-market is really exploding. There are so many properties out there that people don’t know about, especially high-end properties and estates in our area. I think the PLS system is helping though; it allows brokers to discover these properties on our site more easily.

What’s one of the most important things you’ve learned during your career?

To identify client needs early and determine how I can bring value to my clients. I work to provide them with the information they often don’t have access to obtain. The PLS gives them information that’s not in the public domain. Since I am representing celebrities on a daily basis the platform has been very effective for my business because it’s 100% private and gives me that competitive edge to have access to those off-market properties.

How do you manage your work-life balance?

It's tough to have a good work-life balance. I try to take the downtime and use it as effectively as I can. I usually have to work on the weekends, so when I get a free afternoon I spend it with my family and friends.
